Real estate group joins in effort to collect school supplies

A group of real estate professionals joined in an effort to provide school supplies to Mesa County students.

Independent Brokers, a group of a total of 110 members from 36 brokerages not associated with national franchises, donated to the Stuff the Bus campaign.

Bonnie Walker, treasurer of the group, and Virginia Brown, marketing secretary, purchased more than 750 items for the campaign, including 125 glue sticks, 100 erasers, 100 notebooks, 100 packs of notebook paper, 80 composition notebooks, 75 packs of colored pencils, 50 packs of crayons, 50 packs of pencils, 47 folders and 25 packs of colored markers.

Sara Oliver, chairwoman of Independent Brokers, said the group wanted to give back to the community. More than 40 percent of local students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches, Oliver said. Many of their families can’t afford to purchase basic school supplies.
