Members of the Grand Junction Area Realtors Association collected nearly 4,000 pounds of food during the group’s latest drive for the Salvation Army.

The Fill the Basket food drive was conducted at area grocery stories. Five member teams from GJARA also contributed to the event.

“We’re very proud of our teams. We collected 3,764 pounds of food during that six-hour time period. That’s very impressive,” said Lynn Gillespie, president of GJARA.

Lisa Bikki, chairwoman of the GJARA public relations committee, agreed. “We want to help our community. If we can make life a little easier for someone during a time of need, then we’ve accomplished our goal.”

Claudia Jackson, director of public relations for the Salvation Army, said the GJARA drive helps bridge a gap in food collections between Christmas and late spring. “We’re very blessed with the efforts of GJARA members,” Jackson said.

GJARA members sponsor two charitable events each year, the Fill the Basket food drive and a Christmas toy drive.
