A business executive who also served as a university chancellor will share his experiences during an annual event celebrating entrepreneurship.

Daniel Ritchie is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at Entrepreneurship Day events in Grand Junction and Montrose.

The Grand Junction event is set for noon April 4 in the Meyer Ballroom of the University Center on the Colorado Mesa University campus. The Montrose event is set for noon April 5 at the Montrose Pavilion.

Tickets sell for $50 for individuals, $500 for a table of eight and $1,000 for what’s billed as a visionary sponsor and table for eight. For tickets or more information, visit the website located at www.supportingcmu.org/events.

The luncheons serve as fund-raisers to provide scholarships to CMU students.

A graduate of Harvard with both undergraduate and master’s of business administration degrees, Ritchie initially worked on Wall Street.

He later became executive vice president and chief financial officer of the Music Corporation of America. The MCA operated a record company, published music, represented film and television stars and produced and sold TV programming.

Ritchie subsequently worked for eight years as chief executive officer of Westinghouse Broadcasting and helped create the first around-the-clock news radio station.

Ritchie later moved to Colorado and served as chancellor of the University of Denver from 1989 to 2005.

He’s also served as chairman and CEO of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, president of the Temple Hoyne Buell Foundation and chairman of the board of the Daniels Fund. He also served as chairman of the education committee of a national parks system advisory board.

Along with the keynote speech, the Entrepreneurship Day luncheon in Grand Junction will include an elevator pitch competition in which CMU students will offer brief presentations about their ideas for new products and services. They’ll vie for cash prizes that can be used as seed money to help fund their ventures.

The Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award will be presented to a local entrepreneur who’s started or expanded a venture, contributed to economic development in the region and exemplifies the spirit of entrepreneurship.
