Dave Norman, retired director of the Area Agency on Aging, has been honored for his 44 years of service to the agency and seniors in the region.
Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper proclaimed Sept. 24 as Dave Norman Day at the Capitol in Denver. Hickenlooper also presented Norman with a flag that flew over the Capitol.
A retirement party for Norman was held Sept. 26 at the Mesa County Department of Human Services.
“He is a storehouse of knowledge on everything related to services being provided to the elder population in the region. We have big shoes to fill as he retires, and we will miss him,” said Tracey Garchar, executive director of the Mesa County Department of Human Services.
Norman joined the Area Agency on Aging in 1974 as its first director. Established under the Older Americans Act in 1973, the agency plans, coordinates and offers services that help older adults remain in their homes, including meals, homemaker assistance and caregiver services.
