SCL Health announces new St. Mary’s president

Bryan Johnson

A hospital executive who’s worked in a succession of positions has a new role as president of St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction.

Bryan Johnson accepted the position after serving as interim president since June 15, according to a news release from SCL Health, which operates St. Mary’s.

Johnson succeeds Dr. Brian Davidson, who stepped down to return with his family to Denver after working three years as president.

According to the news release, Johnson will continue to work on regional priorities that ensure patients throughout Western Colorado have access to quality health care close to their homes.

Johnson joined St. Mary’s in 2016 as chief operating officer and has been responsible for overall operations, physician contracting, service line development and financial performance.

Johnson previously worked with Intermountain Healthcare, most recently as administrator of Intermountain Alta View Hospital in Sandy, Utah.

According to the news release, Johnson has worked to ensure continuity of St. Mary’s operations as well as promote strategic partnerships with rural hospitals. He’s changed the admissions process for a rehabilitation unit that increased admissions, implemented new vascular services and supported development of a teleservices program for St. Mary’s and surrounding community hospitals.
