Screening and discussion to explore end-of-life issues

Martin Mortuary and HopeWest have joined to host a screening of a documentary film exploring the way people and doctors deal with life-ending illness.

The screening of “Being Mortal” is set for 5 p.m. Dec. 5 at the mortuary, 550 North Ave. in Grand Junction. Afterward, participants are encouraged to join in a discussion about advance care planning and end-of-life wishes.

The event is free and open to the public. A light dinner will be provided. For more information, call 243-1538 or visit www.HopeWestCO.org.

“We are excited to partner with HopeWest to screen ‘Being Mortal’ for the community of Grand Junction,” said Richard Lewis, manager of Martin Mortuary. “We hope the community benefits from the information provided in the documentary and in the discussion.”

Based on the book by Atul Gawande, the Public Broadcasting Service documentary explores the way people deal with life-ending illnesses and the relationships doctors form with patients nearing the end of life.
