An upcoming seminar in Grand Junction will offer information to seniors with visual impairments.
The free seminar is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Center for Independence, 740 Gunnison Ave. The event will include a free lunch. Registrations are due Oct. 4. Call 241-0315 to register or obtain more information.
The seminar will feature five speakers, including keynote speaker Diana Reeves, an opthalmologist trained in diagnosing and treating a range of diseases. Reeves will talk about maintaining independence despite vision loss.
Wendy Genkov with Housing Resources of Western Colorado will discuss a free weatherization program. Clara Brown-Shaffer, an attorney with Brown & Brown, will cover reverse mortgages. Jim Hoganson, a chaplain with Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, will talk about grief, loss and isolation as related to vision and independence. Valdon Lewis, general manager of Grand Valley Transit, will talk about using the local bus system to maintain independence.
