Southwest Arbor Fest takes place April 25 at Lincoln Park

The City of Grand Junction will celebrate Arbor Day and Earth Day with the annual Southwest Arbor Fest, presented by SavATree, on April 25, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.. at Lincoln Park.

A variety of activities and events are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., including: taking home a free tree seedling; participating in a silent auction for a larger, containerized tree; registering for the city’s private ash treatment cost-share program; a silent auction featuring urban wood pieces milled from recently lost park trees; and a notable tree tour.

Attendees can talk with Grand Junction City Manager Mike Bennett from 9 to 11 a.m. at a table located near the pool entrance. This drop-in opportunity invites residents to: engage in a casual Q&A; share thoughts with city leadership; and learn more about the city’s Urban Forestry program.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the city will provide free, electronic-waste collection. Participants should enter the Lincoln Park parking lot from Gunnison Avenue. Most items will be accepted at no cost; a full list of accepted items is available on the city’s website. Televisions will be accepted at no cost up to 40 pounds. TVs weighing over 40 pounds will be charged 65 cents per pound. Items not accepted include alkaline batteries, appliances, bulbs, hazardous waste, business e-waste.

The electronic-waste collection may end early if collection containers reach capacity.

A general festival will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring seven food trucks, craft-beer tasting (starts at noon), live music from High Desert Sky Band at noon and Schaffer Brothers Band at 2 p.m., Theatre in the Park, and more than 80 booths of vendors and nonprofit organizations.
