St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction has scheduled an event offering health screenings, a heart-healthy dinner and survivor stories.
The Go Red for Women event is set for 4 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 17 as part of the National Heart Month observance in February. Tickets sell for $30. For tickets or more information, visit the website located at www.stmarygj.org/gored or call 298-7530.
According to the American Heart Association, 90 percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease and are more likely to die following a heart attack. In Mesa County, cardiovascular diseases ranks among the top 10 causes of death.
“The event is to help educate women on the changes they can make to live healthier, longer lives,” said Jessica Silva, a member of the Go Red for Women committee at St. Mary’s.
“The women in our lives are important and precious. I want every female to know they have a choice in their personal risk for cardiovascular disease,” Silva added.
The event will feature Tracey Conway, an Emmy Award-winning actress who will share her story about surviving more than the perils of show business as well as talk about heart health, managing stress with humor and creating a balanced life.
