Essentials in Learning, an academic coaching and tutoring service for students who encounter difficulty learning in school, expects to expand to meet growing demand.
In addition, the company won the award for best business plan developed during the 12-week Leading Edge course offered at the Business Incubator Center in Grand Junction.
Essentials in Leaning, a tenant of the business incubator program at the center, expects to add more coaches and tutors this fall.
Alice Dunick, Anne Breckenridge and Shari VanderVelde launched Essentials in Learning in January in part to respond to the growing number of children who’ve been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
Essentials in Learning offers coaching for ADHD behaviors, in addition to helping students develop such executive function skills as goal setting, organization and time management that enable them to better manage the complexities of school.
Essentials in Learning offers tutoring in academic subjects and evaluates gaps in student achievement, providing individualized learning sessions in core academic areas of math, reading and writing to students in kindergarten through college.
The incubator program at the centers offers low-cost space, shared services and coaching to small business tenants. Over the past 24 years, the program has helped launch more than 260 companies.
