Cathy Story has taken over as the new president of the United Way of Mesa County board of directors.
Story has served on the board since 2010 and succeeds Debe Colby, who remains on the board as immediate past president. Story serves as director of the Commons at Hilltop, an independent- and assisted-living facility in Grand Junction.
Three other people have joined the 14-member board: Scott Burnham, assistant vice president of Alpine Bank; Kimberly Flynn, a special education teacher at Central High School; and Joe Higgins, former director of Mesa County Partners.
“Our hard-working board of directors is committed to improving the long-term outlook for our community. It’s a pleasure to work with this talented, diverse group of volunteers,” said Julie Hinkson, executive director of United Way.
Since its formation in 1959, United Way has invested more than $20 million in donations in local nonprofit groups that build strong families, increase self-reliance and promote health. For more information, visit the Web site located at www.unitedwaymesacounty.org.
