Veterans services officer joins workforce center

Shawn Martinez has joined the Mesa County Workforce Center in Grand Junction as a veteran services officer.

Martinez helps veterans and their families access a range of benefits that include education and training, disability compensation, health care and pensions.

Martinez brings to his duties his familiarity with the Grand Valley and military experience.

He grew up in Grand Junction and graduated from Grand Junction High School and what’s now Colorado Mesa University. He enlisted in the Army in 2011 and reached the rank of sergeant in two years. He attended officer candidate school and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. He held positions as a squad and platoon leader, adjutant, aide-de-camp, executive officer and safety officer. He continues to serve in the Colorado National Guard.

“After eight years in the military, it feels great to be back in my hometown of Grand Junction. I really enjoyed my time in the military, and I love the fact that this position allows me to continue my service in a meaningful way.”
