West Slope engineering firm among Companies to Watch

A Western Colorado engineering, surveying and consulting firm is among the latest winners of an awards program that honors companies that demonstrate high performance in the marketplace through innovative products and processes.

SGM is among 50 firms to receive 2015 awards under the Colorado Companies to Watch program. The winners were honored at a gala dinner and awards ceremony in Denver. More than 1,200 companies applied to participate in the program.

SGM is based in Glenwood Springs, but also operates offices in Grand Junction as well as Aspen,  Durango, Gunnison, Meeker and Salida.

“We are honored to be recognized for our growth, culture and influence in our industry,” said Louis Meyer, president and chief executive officer of SGM. “This award is a reflection of the grassroots contributions, dedication, work ethic and creativity of our entire staff. It also reflects our ability to meet the technical engineering challenges and opportunities that are unique to our mountain environment and culture. We hope to continue  enhancing the quality of life of the communities we serve for years to come.”

David Tolson, chairman of the Colorado Companies to Watch board of directors, also praised SGM. “We are pleased to recognize SGM for their outstanding contribution in fueling the economic fire of Colorado. Thank you SGM.”

SGM offers a range of engineering, surveying and consulting services related to everything from construction and land development to oil and natural gas production to water and wastewater systems. The firm employs more than 90 people.

Launched by the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade in 2009, the Colorado Companies to Watch program honors second-stage companies for developing products and services that create jobs, promote innovation and contribute to their communities.

In the process, the awards program also offers insights into the state economy and the roles the winning companies play on local, regional and statewide levels.

The 50 companies that won awards in 2014 earned a total of $413 million in annual revenues and employed the equivalent of nearly 1,800 full-time employees.
