The Colorado Department of Agriculture has introduced a Web site feature designed to help livestock owners buying, selling or moving their animals.
Livestock owners can find their brand inspectors by visiting the Web site at www.colorado.gov/ag/brands and clicking on “brand inspectors.” By simply clicking on their specific areas, owners retrieve the name and contact information of their brand inspectors.
“Livestock is big business in Colorado, and we strive to make the brand inspection process as efficient as possible. And implementing new technology is a big step towards achieving that goal,” said Chris Whitney, brand commissioner for the Colorado Department of Agriculture. “This new feature will help livestock owners find their brand inspector with a click of the mouse.”
The department employs 55 brand inspectors across Colorado who inspect livestock and verify ownership before sale, transportation beyond 75 miles, transportation out of state and before slaughter. In 2010, brand inspectors traveled more than 1.1 million miles and inspected more than 4.5 million head of livestock.
