Work is expected to continue through July on a project to rebuild a stretch of First Street through Grand Junction.
The Grand Junction City Council awarded a contract of $2.1 million to MA Concrete to reconstruct First Street between Ouray Avenue and North Avenue.
What’s now a four-lane roadway will be reconfigured to two lanes and a center turning lane. The project also will include bicycle lanes, detached sidewalks and pedestrian crossing islands. The project is expected to result in reduced vehicle speeds as well as fewer collisions and injuries.
The work is scheduled for completion July 14. Lane shifts and closures are expected as flaggers move traffic through the area. Access to all businesses will remain open, however.
