Workshops, event planned for uranium and nuclear weapons workers

Nuclear Care Partners has scheduled two free workshops to offer information to workers involved in uranium and nuclear weapons production. The health care organization also has scheduled an event honoring those workers.

Resource workshops are set for 2 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Mesa County Libraries central library at 443 N. Sixth St. in Grand Junction and 5 p.m. Oct 18 at Grand Mesa Oncology at 1501 E. Third St. in Delta.

The workshops will offer information about filing claims for government benefits, what to do with monetary awards and home health care.

Nuclear Care Partners also will host a remembrance celebration from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 30 at Las Colonias Park at 925 Strutters Ave. in Grand Junction. The free event will honor uranium and nuclear weapons workers for their role in defending the United States. The celebration will include ceremonies as well as appetizers and prizes.

Nuclear Care Partners provides home health care services to former uranium and nuclear weapons production workers. A federal program compensates workers involved in nuclear weapons production who’ve developed illnesses as a result of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals.
