Medical supply company celebrates 30 years of operation in Grand Junction

A Grand Junction medical supply company is celebrating 30 years in business.

Grand Mesa Medical Supply will mark the milestone through February at its operation at 1708 North Ave. The drawing for the grand prize in a customer appreciation giveaway is set for 3 p.m. Feb. 25.

Poppy Woody, a registered nurse, and her daughter, Kahnie Johnson, founded Grand Mesa Medical in 1981 to serve patients who were discharged from the hospital, but needed continued medical care at home. Woody and Johnson provided walkers, wheelchairs and other products and specialized equipment to help  patients make the transition.

Grand Mesa Medical Supply subsequently expanded and relocated to a 10,000 square-foot building at its current location. The staff has grown to a total of 21 full- and part-time employees.

The inventory also has grown to include bathroom safety items, breast pumps, compression therapy items, hospital beds, mastectomy supplies, power scooters and wheelchairs and stair and vehicle lifts. The service department is trained to maintain everything sold in the store.
