St. Mary’s Hospital earns recognition for nursing excellence

Intermountain Health St. Mary’s Regional Hospital has been designated again as a Magnet with Distinction hospital for nursing excellence and recognition of outstanding safety and innovative care for patients from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

According to a news release from Intermountain Health, St. Mary’s Regional Hospital first received the designation in 2022. The hospital was recognized for exemplary performance exceeding national benchmarks in 12 specific areas as part of its evaluation, including patient safety, patient-centered care, care coordination and creating a safe work environment.

St. Mary’s Chief Nursing Officer Cori Holloway said the achievement reflects years of dedication, innovation, teamwork and unwavering commitment to providing exceptional care to the people of Western Colorado. She emphasized that the achievement is especially meaningful in the reality of health care today.

“Nursing is incredibly demanding. Patients are more complex, health care continues to evolve, and care givers face challenges every day that most people never see,” Holloway said. “Yet our nurses and caregivers continue to show up with skill, compassion, resilience and an unwavering commitment to those who depend on us.”

The news release said St. Mary’s Regional Hospital is the only Magnet-designated hospital in Western Colorado and the second hospital in Colorado to earn Magnet with Distinction. With this designation, St. Mary’s is among the leaders in nursing care in the country and globally.
