In a letter to the Board of Mesa County Commissioners, dated Sept. 29, Todd Starr resigned as Mesa County attorney, a position he held since August 2021.
According to a Sept. 30 news release from the county, First Assistant County Attorney Stephanie Rubinstein will serve as acting county attorney while Mesa County works to hire the next county attorney. Rubinstein and the Mesa County Attorney’s Office will provide legal counsel to the commission and county staff and manage pending matters during the transition.
Starr wrote in his letter of resignation: “It has been a distinct honor to serve in this capacity, and I depart with the utmost confidence that the County Attorney’s Office will continue to provide the Board with the highest standard of service while safeguarding taxpayer resources.
“I am committed to working closely with County Administrator Todd Hollenbeck to ensure the orderly return of all County assets and to facilitate a comprehensive transition regarding pending matters, files, and system access. My objective is to ensure this transition is as seamless as possible for both the Board and the County Attorney’s Office.”
The Mesa County commissioners said in a joint statement: “We thank Todd for his service to Mesa County and wish him well.”
